Why ingesting CBD might not be as beneficial as you think.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is everywhere nowadays. As legalization of edibles ramps up, businesses are looking for ways to incorporate CBD into just about everything. While ingesting CBD seems to be the preferred form of CBD consumption, is it the most effective?
Research has proposed a contrary stance – CBD is more effective when inhaled. This is largely based on how your body processes CBD
CBD and the body
When we ingest THC, the effects are amplified because of how the liver metabolizes the molecule. In comparison, when CBD is processed by the liver, turning into 7-OH-CBD, a large portion of CBD is removed from the body through the digestive system. Can 7-OH-CBD do everything CBD can do? Yes, but not as well.
While the effects of ingesting CBD are significant, they will not be as rapid or pronounced as inhalation. In cases where you are looking for quick results, ingesting CBD means you’ll be waiting for 45 minutes to an hour. Furthermore, 7-OH-CBD doesn’t have the same affinity for CB1 and CB2 receptors as CBD.
Smoking CBD gets into the bloodstream much quicker and engages CB1 and CB2 receptors better before it is converted.
So why it is that CBD consumption favors ingested products? CBD is being positioned heavily as a health supplement. To that target audience, smoking may seem counterintuitive or off-putting. However, vapourizing provides an alternative to smoking that has fewer negative health effects. Any inhaled plant matter or substances have drawbacks and risk, but vapourizing is a quick and easy way to introduce CBD into your routine.
