Please note that you must have your Qualified Cannabis Worker (QCW) from AGLC in order to work in the cannabis industry in Alberta. This process is not time-consuming, however, it can take up to a month for the documents to be processed. We highly advise you take a proactive approach to getting your QCW if you’d like to work in the cannabis industry.
How to get your Qualified Cannabis Worker (QCW) 3 step process:
- Acquire a criminal background check. You must go to a police station in person (online checks do not qualify). The cost of a police check is $30 and the process takes 2 – 3 weeks to receive the documentation. Please note, a police check must be less than three months old. If you tell them it is for work reasons, they may rush it for you, but this is not guaranteed.
- Complete the AGLC Sell Safe program. This is a web-based tutorial and certification process and the cost is $25+GST and will require 3 – 4 hours of online learning. Go to: sellsafe.aglc.ca
- Mail or courier your AGLC Qualifed Cannabis Worker application. Combine the police criminal background check and AGLC Sell Safe certification registration number and submit it with a copy of your birth certificate or passport directly to AGLC (50 Corriveau Avenue, St. Albert, AB T8N 3T5). This process could take 2 – 4 weeks.
