Dry January? The Perks of Cannabis Beverages

If you are participating in “Dry January” and looking for alternative options, may we suggest — cannabis beverages. If you haven’t dug into weed drinks yet, there are a lot of reasons to give it a shot. And with so many innovations in the industry this past year, there are a lot of options out there for beverages.

How do cannabis beverages work?

Beverages use emulsion (and nano-emulsion) technology to mix two liquids that wouldn’t normally mix (cannabis oil and liquid) into a soluble drink. Because of this technology, cannabis particles are easily and perfectly suspended allowing for a consistent experience.

What are the effects of cannabis beverages?

Because THC is more bioavailable when consuming in a beverage, the effects are felt quicker and stronger than when consuming via smoking or traditional edibles. Bioavailability is the key indicator of substance absorption into the body.

  • With smoking, 5% of the THC is bioavailable

  • With edibles, 20% of the THC is bioavailable

  • With beverages, the THC is 4X more bioavailable than edibles!

Cannabis beverages hit stronger, and faster.

With a cannabis drink, the effects can be felt within 10 - 30 minutes. But because the THC filters out of the bloodstream quicker as well, the duration of the effects is less than edibles and will start to wear off in 1 - 2 hours.

What does this mean for dosing?

If you are new to cannabis beverages, you want to start with low amounts of THC because of the fact they will hit you 4X harder.

  • 1.25mg = beginner

  • 2.5 mg = regular

  • 5 mg = advanced

  • 10 mg = heroic

What types of cannabis drinks are available?

The market for beverages has matured a lot in a short amount of time so the assortment available is fantastic. You can find everything from seltzers to mock cocktails, faux beers to traditional sodas and everything between. And since Health Canada changed the dried cannabis equivalencies on beverages last year, you can buy up to 48 drinks at a time!
